Child shot in hand, man shot in leg during Center Point robbery

A child was shot in the hand and a man was shot in the leg during a robbery that turned into a shooting in Center Point on Monday evening.

Lt. Sean Edwards said Birmingham police received a call around 8 p.m. about a man being robbed at Valley Brook Apartments on Gallant Drive. A child was shot in the hand during the altercation, Edwards said. The child, who is under the age of 10, is being treated for non-life threatening injuries.

A man was shot in the leg at a Citgo gas station located in the 3100 block of Center Point Parkway. Edwards confirmed that the male is one of the parties involved in the robbery. The gas station is about a two-minute drive away from the scene of the robbery.

No arrests have been made in the case yet. Additional information has not been released at this time.

There’s a big demand for more affordable housing in Charlotte, where rents and home prices have shot up much faster than wages over the past few years.
