There are just a few more details Friday after police say a man was shot Thursday night while waiting for a ride near the entrance to Deaverview Apartments.

Thursday night at approximately 10:12 p.m. the Asheville Police Department responded to Crossroads Grocery at 482 Deaverview Road after receiving reports of a man who was shot. Authorities said the call reported a gunshot at Building 8.

Upon arrival officers located a man in his 50s suffering from a gunshot wound to his chest.

The man was taken to Mission Hospital where he was stabilized. News 13 still does not have more information about his condition at this time.

He was conscious and alert when transported.

Police say that as the man was getting into a vehicle he heard shots being fired and was struck. He left the area, and the woman driving the vehicle stopped at the first public place, Crossroads Grocery, and called 911.

This incident is under further investigation, and no additional details are available at this time.

Police encourage anyone with any additional information on this incident to call 828-252-1110 or CrimeStoppers at 828-255-5050.
