Children home when husband shoots, kills wife at Pearland apartment

PEARLAND, Texas — Charges have been filed against a man who fatally shot his wife Tuesday night at an apartment complex in Pearland.

The shooting happened at the Tranquility Bay apartments in the 2900 block of Oak Road.

The victim's children called police shortly before 7:45 p.m. and said their father shot their mother.

The woman was transported to a nearby hospital where she later died.

Police began a manhunt for Chaires, who fled the scene in a silver 2006 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 extended cab pickup truck. He was captured a few hours later.

Charlotte affordable housing forum raises possible solutions

There’s a big demand for more affordable housing in Charlotte, where rents and home prices have shot up much faster than wages over the past few years. Many of the apartments being built now target more affluent renters, waitlists for housing vouchers are long and starter homes are snapped up almost immediately.
