AUGUSTA, GA (WFXG) -

A man who was injured during a stabbing Monday night at the River Glen Apartments is now facing charges.

Deputies responded to the apartments at 201 E. Telfair St. around 9 p.m. When they arrived, they found Xavier Nicholas Gilmore sitting on the sidewalk with a knife blade lodged in his shoulder.

Deputies said that they determined that Gilmore was the primary aggressor in an altercation with his girlfriend and his sister. He is facing charges of two counts of simple battery and will be arrested when he is released from the hospital.

Gilmore's girlfriend said that Gilmore got angry after seeing a text in her phone from someone, according to an incident report. The girlfriend said Gilmore tried to choke her up against a wall.

That's when Gilmore's sister intervened and tried to calm Gilmore down, according to the report. Gilmore punched her in the face and also tried to choke her.

The sister ran to the kitchen and grabbed a knife, according to the report. Gilmore charged at his sister and she stabbed him in the shoulder.

Gilmore was taken to Georgia Regent's Medical Center and officials said his injuries are not life-threatening.
