Police take search efforts underground, still no sign of Baby Willow

After three days, Orlando police have yet to find any sign of Baby Willow.

Investigators, along with city of Orlando crews searched sewer lines for any sign of the missing infant on Wednesday. Those searches and the reexamination of dumpsters from the Willow Bend Apartment Complex failed to yield any evidence, police said.

Officers were called to the Willow Bend Apartments, off Silver Star Road and Coast Line Drive, for a report of a placenta and afterbirth found in the parking lot Monday.

Homicide and crime scene investigators arrived at the scene, and multiple teams of dogs and searchers canvassed the area, including every dumpster. They were ultimately unsuccessful in finding the baby, now dubbed "Baby Willow."

According to a police report, bloody shoe prints led them to a home where neighbors said a pregnant woman lived.

"We were consistently told how the female's pregnancy appeared to be nearly full term," police said in the report.

Authorities said they learned that the woman there had called 911 to report she'd had a miscarriage, and medics took her to Florida South Hospital. According to the report, she told hospital staff she was only three to four months pregnant and did not give birth.

According to police, the woman, later identified as Susan Richardson, 30, admitted to giving birth to a baby girl.

"She is giving us some information, but not everything," said Sgt. Wanda Ford.

Throughout the interview with police, the report said, it was apparent that "Richardson was not concerned about her baby's well-being."

"At times she would yawn when asked a question, and other times she would lean her head back as if she was bored with our questions," the report said.

After getting consent from Richardson to search her home for evidence, police found obvious blood evidence in the bedroom, bathroom and laundry room. However, police noted there were no diapers, baby carriages, cribs or any other items in the home to show Richardson was preparing for a newborn.

Police said Richardson informed investigators Wednesday that she dropped Baby Willow off at an apartment doorstep.

Search crews descended on the Willow Bend Apartment Complex Wednesday morning and spent the day canvassing the area. According to the Orlando Police Department's Twitter page, the search turned up empty.

Richardson, who is charged with aggravated child neglect and unlawful desertion of a child, made her first court appearance Wednesday. She is being held on $50,000 bond.

Anyone who was in the area and saw Richardson between the hours of 10 a.m. and 12:15 p.m. Monday is asked to contact police.
