Early morning apartment fire displaces family - Story

SALT LAKE CITY, Utah (ABC4 News) - An early morning fire at an apartment complex forced the evacuation of the building and displaced one family in Salt Lake City Thursday

Dispatchers received the call at 1:35 a.m. of smoke coming from the basement of an apartment located at 79 North A street (200 East).

When crews arrived there were visible flames coming from the basement of the complex, where a couple in their 20s, along with an infant lived. That family, along with 30 others were evacuated from the building without injury.

It took firefighters about 25-30 minutes to put the fire completely out due to heavy flames and smoke traveling up the unit however investigators said the complex is not a total loss.

Foul play is not suspected, a cause of the fire and an estimate of damages was not immediately known.
