SILVER SPRING, MD — Thursday is the one-year anniversary of the devastating explosion at the Flower Branch Apartments that killed seven residents, two of whom were children, and displaced about 100 people. A vigil will be held to remember the victims Thursday evening . The Aug. 10, 2016 blast was caused by a natural gas leak . A total of 28 apartment units were destroyed, and 50 families were displaced by the disaster. Dozens of residents were injured at the scene, some from burns and others from broken bones as they jumped from the third and fourth floors of the buildings. The vigil will be held by the nonprofit CASA from 7:30 to 9:30 p.m. Thursday in the parking lot across the street of 8658 Piney Branch Rd. The vigil will honor those lost and the families of the victims will be invited to speak. (Red Oak) -- A Red Oak youth is accused of setting fire to a house earlier this week. Red Oak Police say the 11-year-old juvenile was charged Friday with reckless use of fire in connection with the blaze destroying the residence at 211 West Reed Street Wednesday evening . Charges were filed following a joint investigation by police, the Red Oak Fire Department and the State Fire Marshal 's Office. Red Oak Fire Chief John Bruce tells KMA News the first unit responded to the fire, which originated in a garage attached to the west side of the house, at approximately 7:15 p.m. "The first arriving fire department person got there at 7:19," said Bruce. "They reported heavy fire involvement within that garage. It actually extended into the two-story residence there at 211 West Reed Street ." Places to stay, eat, shop and work are in talks between property owners and York County planners . Here is the latest on projects that could come to the county: ▪  A hotel is being discussed at Pleasant and Coltharp roads in Fort Mill. Two parcels there combine for less than three acres. County records don ’t indicate which hotel brand may come, and neither parcel has changed hands since 2011. The site is just east of the intersection, beside Habersham. ▪  The hotel is part of a mixed use development in talks at Pleasant Road and Carolina Place in the Fort Mill area . It could include the hotel, apartments, restaurant and retail. The project involves eight properties just off S.C. 160. It would require rezoning, and thus a public hearing. ▪  Lake Wylie could get a new boat repair place . A possible boat and auto repair shop with marine sales is in discussion for 4355 Charlotte Hwy. UNION SPRINGS, Ala. (AP) — A missing Alabama woman found alive after surviving for weeks in the woods is lucky to have survived and is back home with her family recovering, police said Wednesday. Lisa Theris, 25, of Louisville was covered in scrapes and bug bites and dropped as much as 50 pounds to her current of 110 pounds during the ordeal, said Sgt. Chad Faulkner of the Bullock County Sheriff 's Office. "She was in really, really bad shape," Faulkner said. Sheriff Raymond Rodgers tells WSFA -TV that Theris was lost in the woods of southeast Alabama for almost one month. She was found Saturday walking along a highway outside of Union Springs, located about 45 miles (70 km) from Montgomery. Rodgers said Theris survived by drinking water from a brook and eating berries and mushrooms. When members of the Town of Montgomery police department responded to a domestic call in the early morning hours of May 16, the situation turned into a standoff, with the suspect, Anthony Bostick, refusing to come out of his apartment on Abbey Avenue. After hours of negotiations and suicidal comments by Bostick, officers went inside the home. That's when police say Bostick fired at the officers, hitting police chief Arnold Amthor in the shoulder. Officers returned fire , but Bostick wasn't injured; instead, authorities say he shot himself in the bathroom. After the incident, Orange County District Attorney David Hoovler held a news conference, revealing the body camera footage from when officers went inside the apartment. On Monday, Hoovler announced the grand jury declined to file charges against the officer who fired shots at Bostick.
