Atherton Mill demolition underway in Charlotte
Demolition crews are at work tearing down part of the the Atherton Mill and Market shopping center , the first move in a new plan to bring more apartments and retail to the development. RCI Demolition will be at the site for about two months, demolishing the buildings and carrying out asbestos abatement. The demolition is on the southern part of the site close to Publix, not at the historic mill building . After the demolition is complete, work will begin on the new apartments. Crescent Communities is working with Atherton’s owner, Edens, to build 346 new, high-end apartments and tens of thousands of new feet of shops and restaurants. A Crescent- affiliated corporation acquired the multifamily part of the site for just over $15 million, in a deal that closed last month. Retailers at Atherton include Anthropologie , Free People, Alton Lane, and Warby Parker, with restaurants such as O-Ku and Luna’s Living Kitchen, as well as a market selling produce and prepared foods.
