Image
Beijing:  The Kushner family came to the United States as refugees, worked hard and made it big - and if you invest in Kushner properties , so can you. That was the message delivered Saturday by White House senior adviser Jared Kushner 's sister Nicole Kushner Meyer to a ballroom full of wealthy Chinese investors in Beijing. Over several hours of slide shows and presentations, representatives from the Kushner family business urged Chinese citizens gathered at a Ritz-Carlton hotel to consider investing hundreds of thousands of dollars in a New Jersey luxury apartment complex that would help them secure what's known as an investor visa. The potential investors were advised to invest sooner rather than later in case visa rules change under the Trump administration."Invest early, and you will invest under the old rules," one speaker said. Water issues cause move in problems at new College Station apartment

Image
COLLEGE STATION , Tex. (KBTX) A number of residents who hoped to move into a new high- rise apartment in College Station were turned away Saturday. Management with Sterling at Northgate sent some of their new tenants an email Friday night that said the property would have a delay in occupancy. The delay meant those tenants would not be able to move-in Saturday. According to the letter, the city will not allow residency in Building Two on August 19th, due to water shut-off to the building. Residents who spoke with KBTX say they were offered a chance to put their belongings inside, but they wouldn’t be able to stay the night. A spokesperson with the property, Merideth Savoie, says the water was turned off for inspections. “The closure affected only one of our buildings,” said Savoie. “As of this evening the water is back on and residents have been notified that they can move in.” Savoie told KBTX if the residents were not able to...

Sao Paolo to Paraty - Through the Interface

Image
Apparently Brazil has very few extended bouts of cold, wet weather – even in their winter, which is, of course, right now – but one of them started just before our arrival. Sao Paolo had just gone 40 or so days without rain, and so many people welcomed it. Fair enough. From our side, we were hoping for better weather to discover Sao Paolo , but in the end we spent more time than expected catching up on work and schoolwork. Our Airbnb was very central – just a block from the famous Paulista Avenue . There are many, many pizzerias and sushi bars in Sao Paolo, probably a function of the fact the largest Italian and Japanese populations outside of their respective countries are in Brazil. At least that’s what I’ve been told. On our first evening in Sao Paolo – after getting in very late and getting driven to our appartment – we tried Brazilian pizza, and it was interesting… the cheese was on top, which appeared to be the principle difference, as far as I can tell. We went to the pizzeria a...
