Low-Income Apartment Complex Opens on Elk Grove-Florin Road

A new apartment complex near Elk Grove was completely full before it was even ready for tenants to move in. Arbor Creek, a 102-unit low- income apartment complex near Elk Grove-Florin and Calvine roads, held an open house and ribbon- cutting ceremony Thursday . It's owned and operated by Roseville- based USA Properties , which owns numerous low -income and senior housing complexes around the state and about a half-dozen in Elk Grove.  "The fact that they have a place like this to live makes them more stable as far as buying into this area," USA Properties President and CEO Geoffrey Brown said. Tenants pay a different rent depending on their income, which can't be more than either 50 or 30 percent of the county's median income. That means a three-person family earning $32,550 a year (50 percent of the median income) would pay $756 for a two-bedroom apartment. If that same family earned $19,530 (30 percent of the median income), they would pay $431 to rent a tw...

Some forced to move as Ann Arbor-area apartments transition from affordable to market rate

Image
Megan Mishler has lost her sense of security. Mishler, who has a rare genetic condition called Ehlers -Danlos Syndrome that prevents her from working, was recently forced to move from her apartment just west of Ann Arbor because her landlord is transitioning from affordable housing to market rate. Mishler is not alone; the transition will impact 144 units at the 368- unit Woodchase apartment complex at 1100 Rabbit Run Circle in Scio Township. “This has been extremely, extremely difficult. I was almost paralyzed at first,” Mishler said, referring to when she learned she would have to move. “This just added a whole other layer on top of all the other stuff that I’m already dealing with.” Mishler was told the rent for her one-bedroom apartment would jump from $770 per month to about $1,200 per month at the end of her lease term. The Woodchase apartments in Scio Township were developed in 1998. Katie McLean | The Ann Arbor News   Mishler uses the Section 8 Housing Choice Voucher Progr...

Central Valley School District buys Broadway Square apartment complex > Spokane Journal of Business

Spokane Valley - based Central Valley School District has bought for $2.3 million the Broadway Square Apartments complex at 11910 E. Broadway, in Spokane Valley , and plans to demolish it to make room for the envisioned replacement of North Pines Middle School , says Ben Small, district superintendent . North Pines Middle School , which serves about 500 students, is located on 14.5 acres of adjacent land at 607 N. Pines Road. Small says the district bought the 2.4-acre, 50- unit apartment complex with funds from a $ 113 million bond measure , which voters approved in February 2015. The district anticipates including construction funding for the planned middle school relocation project in a future ballot measure that would go before voters in the spring of 2018, he says. West Deptford revokes three certificates of occupancy at Forest Creek apartments

Image
WEST DEPTFORD TWP. – Chronic roof leaks and at least one ceiling collapse have led township officials to revoke three certificates of occupancy at the Forest Creek apartment complex . Residents of the second floor of the apartment complex near Jessup Road have, since last November in some cases, been complaining of regular leaks in their ceiling. Tisa Davenport was in her sixth year living at Forest Creek when a new leak spouted last January. “It was a regular thing, and it’s like you just know the routine at that point,” said Davenport, 33. “The response from management has always been you poke a hole in the ceiling, you get a bucket and you wait for roof repair. But I had three leaks this year and on Feb. 10 or 11, my ceiling collapsed.” Looking into the crater in her ceiling, Davenport reported seeing mold. Her apartment and two others have been deemed uninhabitable, following inspections from West Deptford code enforcement official Mark Hallahan . “It’s the smell of it that rea...

Planned southwest Longmont apartment complex draws ire

A proposed 276- unit apartment complex set to go on the southwest corner of Airport Road and Clover Basin Drive has surrounding Longmont homeowners worried about their home values as well as traffic and space for schoolchildren. The Renaissance Village apartment complex , being developed by Longmont- based company Actis LLC , would be housed in 16 three- story buildings spread over roughly 21 acres. The complex would feature a clubhouse, pool, pocket parks and pavilion, according to plans submitted to the city. There have been two neighborhood meetings between the developer and the community and the project will be on a planning and zoning committee meeting agenda once the city planning department staff completes its review. Kirk Christoffersen, a Clover Creek HOA board member , said the meetings did not go well at all and the community doesn't feel the developer is listening to them or responding to homeowner concerns. Richard Groves, with Actis LLC, did not return calls se...
