One of the most watched recent murder cases in the Philadelphia area in years wound to a close on Wednesday with David "DJ" Creato, 23, admitting to killing his three-year-old son, Brendan, in October 2015. He pleaded guilty to aggravated manslaughter in the case after a 10-day trial on a first- degree murder charge ended in a hung jury and mistrial in May. L.A. woman seeks justice for dead son

LaTisha Nixon is a mother on a mission for her son. Nixon’s son, Gemmel Moore, 26, was found dead from an apparent overdose of methamphetamine at on July 27 at the West Hollywood apartment of Ed Buck, a prominent Democratic political donor . The initial investigation by responding deputies revealed no suspicious circumstances of foul play. That was verified by the responding Los Angeles County Department of Medical Examiner-Corner investigator. “I’m asking for justice for my son,” said Nixon at a recent West Hollywood City Council meeting . “Regardless of the fact of whatever he did the meth or whatever, he was still my son. He was still a person. “I want justice. That’s it.” According to Nixon, at the time of his death, Moore was homeless and working as an escort for gay men. STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. - There are two things that everyone can agree on: We need to protect children from abuse. And the current system, under the aegis of the city Administration for Children's Services, needs fixing. So where do we go from here? A series of stories in the Advance recently laid out many of the shortcomings in the system. ACS case workers are given ridiculously large caseloads to manage. Many of those workers come to the job fresh out of college, so they have little experience. The hours are long. The pay is low. It's not a pretty milieu. Case workers often see the worst of humanity. Parents who brutalize their children. Homes where drug abuse and domestic abuse are rife. Clients can be confrontational and violent. Mother who dumped baby says she didn't want to be a mother

A mother accused of dumping her baby girl in a bush told prosecutors she didn't want to be a mother and doesn't want to see her child.  Sidney Woytasczyk, 21, is charged with child abandonment after abandoning her newborn in a flowerbed near her Houston apartment. In a few short hours Netflix will launch the much anticipated Defenders series uniting the street-level heroes of Hell’s Kitchen.
