By Walt Hunter PHILADELPHIA (CBS) — PGW officials say a break in a six inch cast iron gas main caused a leak leading to an explosion inside a two- story apartment house at 7912 Ardleigh Street in Chestnut Hill around 1:30 this morning. So far, it’s not known what caused the natural gas leak , which is also being investigated by the Public Utility Commission . “The Lord was looking out for us,” said Richard Jordan, who along with his wife and dog, escaped the blast as the floor of the first floor buckled, furniture began flipping upside down, and windows were blown out, shattering windows of cars parked across the street. Upstairs tenant Paul McGinty also escaped unhurt and he helped neighbors get safely out of their shattered apartment . None of the four people inside the apartment house suffered any injuries. SILVER SPRING, MD — Thursday is the one-year anniversary of the devastating explosion at the Flower Branch Apartments that killed seven residents, two of whom were children, and displaced about 100 people. A vigil will be held to remember the victims Thursday evening . The Aug. 10, 2016 blast was caused by a natural gas leak . A total of 28 apartment units were destroyed, and 50 families were displaced by the disaster. Dozens of residents were injured at the scene, some from burns and others from broken bones as they jumped from the third and fourth floors of the buildings. The vigil will be held by the nonprofit CASA from 7:30 to 9:30 p.m. Thursday in the parking lot across the street of 8658 Piney Branch Rd. The vigil will honor those lost and the families of the victims will be invited to speak. Verginia Ghobrial-Said feels as though City Hall is stealing from her and her family. It’s hard to blame her. In May, she and her husband Ramez Said received their utility bill from Enmax for a whopping $4,070.44. More than $3,800 of that bill is for water that Vergina says her family never used. The 31-year-old investment adviser assistant says she received the usual email from Enmax one morning, informing her that her bill for May 15 was available. When she opened it, however, she was shocked. “I was on my way to work when I read the amount on my phone and it was $4,000,” she said. “I thought it must have been an error, but I was getting fast heartbeats until I could phone Enmax at 8:30 a.m. I had two hours of severe anxiety.” Those two hours have turned into four months of tears and frustration with Enmax and Calgary’s Water Services, with no satisfactory resolution for the young couple and their 14-month-old son, Sebastian, other than a huge bill they must pay or have their water ...
