SACRAMENTO COUNTY , Calif. (KCRA) — A Carmichael couple is living in an apartment infested with bed bugs and said their landlord isn’t doing anything to eradicate the problem. Alyssa and Charles Reynolds said when they told Royal Crest Apartments management about the problem, they were asked to pay $400 for an exterminator. Advertisement “My jaw dropped. I was like, 'Really?'” Alyssa Reynolds said. “I’m not paying 400 bucks.” Reynolds believes the responsibility lies on the property owner and when she checked with Sacramento County , she found out she was right. “We would hold the property owner accountable for any substandard housing conditions ,” Sacramento County Code Enforcement Officer Jose Mendez said. Bayside Villas may be under new ownership but residents, who complain of deplorable conditions and discrimination, say nothing has changed. “Nothing has changed,” Bayside Villas resident Barbara Williams said. “It has gotten worse.” The Bradenton Herald first reported on the “deplorable” conditions found at Bayside Villas last November. Multiple government investigations are underway, including one by U.S. Sen. Marco Rubio’s office, at the apartments located just off 20th Lane East in Palmetto.
