Maitland groves to give way to apartments

Maitland’s last evidence of orange groves is soon to become apartments and shops with the Related Group’s $10 million purchase of 20 acres on Maitland Boulevard. Construction is expected to start this week clearing the lake-pocketed site for Town Trelago apartments . Work is expected to start on the 350- unit apartment community in the next three or four months and completion planned in about two years. Residents surrounding Lake Hope had long opposed development of almost 100 acres on the north side of Maitland Boulevard, just east of Interstate 4. Zoning for the overall 96-acre site, known as Maitland Concourse North , was approved in 2016 by the city, according to the Land Advisors team representing the Related Group. “We went to great lengths to work with residents and had a number of community meetings,” said Jeff Robbins, vice president of development for the Miami-based developer. “The beauty of this project is that the apartments are set off from Maitland Boulevard and fron...

Photo courtesy of Mountain Peak Marketing Apartment projects are going up across the Treasure Valley from Boise to Meridian to Nampa and to the next frontier in multi- family housing , Kuna. Some 2, 700 apartment units are in various stages of construction among those cities. Some are recently completed and some are being built in phases.  That is a stark contrast to the near zero multi- family construction in 2010 in metro Boise. Multi- family housing has evolved in the 21 st century, largely moving away from large buildings with hundreds of units.
