Late on a humid Sunday afternoon , July 30, at Twin Oaks apartments on East 36th Street , about a dozen residents mingle under a large oak tree . Some sit on stoops, others pace. Some sit quietly, others discuss the conundrum they've found themselves in through no fault of their own. "I just don't know what I'm supposed to do," one woman stammers between sobs. The residents are young, old and in between. Some have lived here for nearly a decade, some moved in this year. LAKEWOOD, NJ — The state Department of Environmental Protection has rejected permit applications for an 1,800-home development that was proposed for Eagle Ridge Golf Course, saying the developer failed to meet the requirements. In a letter dated Aug . 3, DEP officials notified GDMS Holdings and its principle owner, Moredechai Sternstein, that they were denying applications for a Coastal Area Facilities Review Act permit and a Freshwater Wetlands permit the developer sought for the project. GDMS Holdings sought to build 936 senior housing residential units and 936 basement apartments, along with community centers, a retail facility with 243 parking spaces, a clubhouse, and other amenities on the site of the golf course, which sits along Cross Street, according to the DEP letter. OMAHA — A 40-year-old teaching hospital in Omaha is set to become a mammoth apartment building with up to 700 units, open-air atriums, a rooftop pool and an enclosed retail corridor that looks out to a new lake. NuStyle Development's plans to re-do CHI Creighton University Medical Center , adding a couple of floors, extending the midtown institution to 10 levels and 1 million square feet . The expansion would make the structure the metro-area's largest single building of market-rate apartments. NuStyle officials said the redevelopment plan will cost about $90 million.
