UPPER EAST SIDE — A woman claiming to be a psychic stole nearly $10,000 in jewelry from an Upper East Sider as part of a scam to "cleanse" the valuables of evil spirits, police said. The victim contacted the suspect July 28 and asked her to come to her East 83rd Street apartment . When the so-called psychic arrived around 1:40 p.m., she told the victim to give her jewelry so that she could cleanse the items of evil spirits, promising to return the goods a week later, police said. The psychic never returned with the jewelry, which totaled $9,950 and included a $5, 000 gold necklace , a $3,000 pair of white gold earrings , five bangles worth $200, a Gucci sterling silver watch worth $500, an $800 amethyst ring, one sterling silver crystal hoop earring worth $175, and various earrings totaling $275, according to the NYPD. HAYWARD, Calif. -- A Hayward police officer shot a woman Tuesday night and she later died from her injuries. It happened on Foothill Boulevard and Grove Way at the Summerwood apartments . The Hayward police were called by another police agency to conduct a welfare check on a woman around 7 p.m. According to the Hayward police , the 62-year-old woman had made several 911 calls before they arrived. They went to the woman's second story apartment , spoke with her at her apartment and displayed a handgun in a threatening manner. The police say that's when officers retreated to the parking lot of the complex, while telling the woman to drop the weapon. They say she advanced towards officers and that's when one officer fired his weapon. SAN DIEGO -- A SWAT standoff that began as a report of a woman firing gunshots at an apartment complex has concluded peacefully with the suspect in custody Thursday afternoon .  Police say woman who shot at her neighbor and caused a 7-hour standoff in Clairemont is 35-year-old Brittney Lefler . ORLANDO, Fla. — After three days, Orlando police have yet to find any sign of Baby Willow. Investigators, along with city of Orlando crews searched sewer lines for any sign of the missing infant on Wednesday. Those searches and the reexamination of dumpsters from the Willow Bend Apartment Complex failed to yield any evidence, police said. Market St., to get on the ground Tuesday as they forced a third worker into the back room of the store in a 9:20 p.m. robbery. The robbers were both wearing pantyhouse-type masks, black pants and black T-shirts. One told the two employees on the floor that they knew where they lived and would kill them if they called police. Police later used a canine to track the suspects and found a mask believed to have been used by the robbers behind a house on Haymaker Avenue Northwest . Officers were dispatched about 7:15 p.m. to the San Tropez Apartments , 8025 Russell Road, near Buffalo Drive, Lt. Peter Kisfalvi said. Inside a garage, they found the body of a woman in her early 20s next to her car, Lt. Dan McGrath said in a briefing broadcast online . It wasn’t immediately clear how she died, but detectives have deemed her death a homicide, McGrath said. The woman lived in the complex and is a “completely innocent” victim. According to a preliminary investigation, the woman had been in the complex’s office about 5:30 p.m., so detectives were trying to piece together a timeline on when she was killed, McGrath said. Turnbull said Saturday that the boy's mother was badly injured and is in a hospital following Friday's attack at the Las Ramblas promenade . Turnbull says the boy's family is searching for him.
