Newborn Baby Found Near Houston Apartment Was One-Hour Old, Covered With Ants

HOUSTON, TX — More news has surfaced on the baby found abandoned in an NW Harris County apartment Thursday morning . According to authorities, the baby was less than an hour old, full-term and healthy, covered with ants and still had its umbilical cord attached . Two men on their way to work early Thursday morning found the baby around 5 a.m. in the grass on the grounds of the apartment complex off of Red Oak Drive. Investigators have tracked down the woman they feel is the biological mother. There was an emergency custody hearing Friday morning , and the man who claims to be the father testified that the mother constantly denied being pregnant, although he believed she was. A DNA test is being performed to see if the man matches the baby's DNA. Detectives said that if the two people hadn't found the b...

The umbilical cord was still attached. Experts say the infant wouldn't have survived much longer if a neighbor hadn't found her. Once the Texas county sheriff 's deputies were finally allowed inside , they spoke with a 21-year-old woman who appeared to live in the Cypress Creek apartment complex unit . "It's like they just left the baby out there like it was trash", said Baldwin. The unnamed mother is now in the custody of sheriffs and the local district attorney is now considering charges against her. Detectives knocked on the apartment's door, but the residents refused to open it. "Without this neighbour, we could be looking at probably a whole different scene", said HCSO Deputy Thomas Gilliland . Peterson took the baby to his apartment and asked his wife to call the police, while he cleaned up the baby . However in the meantime the newborn baby was taken for a medical evaluation at Texas Children's Hospital and despite what she had bee...
