A proposed 276- unit apartment complex set to go on the southwest corner of Airport Road and Clover Basin Drive has surrounding Longmont homeowners worried about their home values as well as traffic and space for schoolchildren. The Renaissance Village apartment complex , being developed by Longmont- based company Actis LLC , would be housed in 16 three- story buildings spread over roughly 21 acres. The complex would feature a clubhouse, pool, pocket parks and pavilion, according to plans submitted to the city. There have been two neighborhood meetings between the developer and the community and the project will be on a planning and zoning committee meeting agenda once the city planning department staff completes its review. Kirk Christoffersen, a Clover Creek HOA board member , said the meetings did not go well at all and the community doesn't feel the developer is listening to them or responding to homeowner concerns. Eagle Crest South , modeled after Bethany’s Eagle Crest North in Onalaska, will feature a Town Center with dining rooms, a café/bistro, a chapel, an auditorium, a health and wellness center, a convenience store, a movie theater, a botanical garden and heated underground parking , said Bethany CEO Todd Wilson . “Town Center will be the hub of community life,” Wilson said in an interview after the dedication and groundbreaking. “The longest walk to Town Center will be 150 feet.” The four-story, 212,660-square-foot facility at 622 Bennora Lee Court will have 144 apartments, including 12 hospice units called Serenity Home with 24-hour end-of- life nursing care . Samuelson Development has spent the past 15 years building and managing apartments in Sioux Falls, one of the fastest growing cities in the nation. Now, the construction firm has struck out for the west where it is seeing new opportunities and investing millions of dollars. "We love the Rapid City market ," said Matt Petersen, property manager for Samuelson Development . Torrential rains caused historic flooding in the Kansas City area Tuesday , leaving one man dead in Kansas and others stranded for hours by high water. Water rescues and evacuations kept police and firefighters busy with hundreds of calls after as much as 9 inches of rain fell starting Monday night . Flooding made many roads impassable, trapping people at homes and businesses along the Blue River and Indian Creek, which set a new record of 28.22 feet overnight and topped its banks after record flooding last month. Water spilling out of Indian Creek inundated bridges , businesses, apartments and houses. For just the second time ever, the National Weather Service issued a flash flood emergency alert for the entire Kansas City area . The first time was last August.
