New apartments for domestic abuse survivors taking shape in Springfield
Springfield, MO A new apartment complex will provide a way for people to rebuild their lives following domestic violence situations .
Named "Talia," the community on South Scenic near Grand Street isn 't just another new housing complex . Half the units will be for women (and their children) escaping violent home situations .
"Unfortunately, a lot of them don't make it long term because the options are not all that great," said Lisa Farmer, Director of Harmony House.
"It is the first project I think in the state of Missouri that is specifically dedicated to domestic violence survivors ," said Bruce Adib-Yazdi of Vecino Group, which is the partnering developer on the project.
Farmer explained, "One of the problems we have is finding affordable, accessible permanent housing for our residents when they are ready to leave the shelter. So, this will help in that regard."
