HIGH POINT, N.C. -- Joseph Carver has lived in High Point for the past decade. He walks to work everyday, walks to the library and walks to visit his mom in her downtown apartment. "I just like to walk," Carver said. "I've always been an active person." Carver wishes more people would do the same by getting around on foot instead of driving. "People around here are crazy when it comes to driving so you have to be really careful," he said. The city is trying to encourage more people to walk around and a federally funded transportation plan shows how it can be done. "Not everyone has a car and you need access to the train depot, the transit facility, so providing safer more accessible sidewalks, bicycle lanes, it just improves the transportation network as a whole," High Point Transportation Planning Administrator Greg Venable said. In the summer of 1995, Doug Robb and his friends snuck into Agoura High School in the middle of the night. Dressed in all black, they found the set of portable stages their alma mater used for its commencement ceremonies and wheeled them through a dirt track and onto the beds of pickup trucks they’d borrowed for the occasion. The next day, they set up the foldout stages in Robb’s parents’ backyard to play their first show as Hoobastank, a metal- influenced band they’d formed about six months prior. Robb eventually returned the stages to the school, but not before using them during a massive rager that attracted teens and 20-somethings from all over the area. The River City Company has sold the office section of the building at 2 Aquarium Way by the Tennessee Aquarium to Marquis Apartment Investors . Kim White of River City said the buyers are the operators of the nearby High Point Climbing and Fitness facility. She said they were in need of office space. The sales price was $890,000. River City Company had bought the building back from the now- defunct Chattanooga History Center in 2016 for $2.2 million. The History Center , under former director Daryl Black , had planned a history museum on the second floor, but it never opened. A group is currently raising funds to put the former Medal of Honor Museum into that location as the Charles Coolidge Medal of Honor Heritage Center . Ms. White said the Coolidge group was not interested in the office space.  She said the office area has a separate entrance. Pucketts Restaurant is on the first floor of the building.
