Transgender North Dallas resident hopes to win the SD 8 seat Pam Curry DAVID TAFFET | Senior Staff Writer taffet@dallasvoice.com Pam Curry is one of two Democratic candidates running for the Texas Senate District 8 seat that includes Frisco, McKinney, Sachse, Plano and Richardson, as well as a small chunk of Dallas north of Forest Lane at Central Expressway. The seat is currently held by Van Taylor, a Republican who served for one term. He’s giving up the seat to make a run for Congress. Texas Sen. Don Huffines represents SD 16 , just to the south. His twin brother, Phillip Huffines , is running for the Republican nomination in SD 8. An Austin developer has changed course on plans to revamp a San Marcos shopping center . Since taking control of Springtown Center in 2014, Endeavor Real Estate has landed a number of high- profile tenants to fill what was, at the time, a sickly strip mall that was only 10 percent occupied. Additions have included heavy hitters such as Chuy’s, Gold’s Gym and The Spot, an entertainment venue. While Endeavor had initially been in talks with a number of interested retailers to fill the remaining space in the shopping center , the developer has decided to go another route. Instead, it is demolishing a chunk of the center between Chuy’s and the former Target store that’s now home to Gold’s Gym and The Spot to make way for a multi- story apartment building that will have 233 units with 32,000 square feet of ground- floor retail space . AMLI Residential, one of Austin’s — and the nation’s — largest multifamily developers , said it plans to build a $30 million, 279- unit apartment complex near the site of the planned town center at the Mueller community in Northeast Austin. AMLI expects to break ground in the first quarter of 2013, with the first units available in the third or fourth quarter of 2014, said Taylor Bowen, executive vice president of AMLI Residential. Willow Springs Apartments will be located off of Bixler Avenue, north of US 70 and behind the now-closed Cattleman’s Steak House on Bataan Memorial West .
