Mother of abandoned newborn girl charged with child neglect

The only remains of the birth of "Baby Willow" were washed away from an apartment complex parking lot Tuesday morning as distraught neighbors looked on. A day earlier Orlando police responded around 3 p.m. to Willow Bend Apartments after someone reported seeing a possible placenta in the parking lot. Homicide and crime- scene investigators determined "that a full term baby had been born and discarded," police said. Officers found the mother, 30-year-old Susan Richardson, on Monday but no baby. She only admitted to giving birth to the girl, according to police. Richardson was taken to the Orange County Jail on an aggravated child neglect charge Tuesday afternoon , police say. Alleged Prowler At Rohnert Park Apartment Complex Arrested With Bag Of Stolen Items: Cops

ROHNERT PARK, CA -- Rohnert Park public safety officers arrested a man on suspicion of prowling at an apartment complex Wednesday morning . A maintenance worker said a man with long hair who was wearing a red hat and two other males were acting erratically around 9:30 a.m. The worker said the men hid a bag next to one of the apartment buildings behind a fence that enclosed utilities. Officers located the bag containing holiday decorations, which they believe were stolen. Officers contacted Christian Slayback , 25, of Rohnert Park, in the Windsong apartment complex at 8201 Camino Colegio. Slayback was wearing a red hat and said he was helping a friend find property that was stolen from her, according to officials from the Department of Public Safety. Slayback said he did not live in the complex, and witnesses who talked to him said he could not explain why he was there. SOUTH PASADENA >> A woman suffered serious injuries after an explosion and fire at an apartment complex Tuesday morning . Authorities said the fire displaced residents from six apartments. Mark Dondaville,division chief for the San Marino and South Pasadena fire departments , estimated damages at $200,000. WARNER ROBINS, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – Several people without a home Tuesday night after fire ripped through the Wellston Ridge Apartments in Warner Robins Monday night . No one was hurt, but seven of those units are completely destroyed . “It moved like a monster,” said Miguel Jimenez. “I pulled up and it was going.” He came home to see his apartment complex up in flames and immediately ran inside to grab his wife and dog. Seven homes completely destroyed within minutes. The Warner Robins Fire Department hasn ’t said exactly how the fire started, but Jimenez says she had something to do with it. “The girl (neighbor) on the porch when I pulled up,” said Jimenez. “She just walked up to me like there was nothing going on, she asked me to use my phone and I was like ‘yeah, sure’ well I need to call the fire department , my kitchen’s on fire.” The fire department got the call around five in the afternoon, but the f...

The 133- unit Stoneyard Apartments were slated to be reviewed at Tuesday's council meeting, but Mayor Esther Manheimer asked that the public hearing be delayed to "a date uncertain." The council unanimously approved the change with no discussion. No one from the Saluda- based AltInvest development group spoke at the meeting. Three people, including a 10-year-old child, are dead after what police are now calling a murder/suicide inside a Woodhaven apartment on Monday. According to police, dead are 49-year-old Sharry Multop and her grandson, Christopher Baltzer. Police said Terry Lee Wyatt , 62, was the woman’s boyfriend and shot them inside his apartment at Marsh Creek Village Apartments in the 25000 block of Marsh Creek Blvd . before turning the gun on himself. “He shot himself in the chin/head, so all three had wounds to the head,” Detective Lt. Scott Fraczek said. The bodies were discovered at about 7:45 p.m. when the boy’s mother returned to the apartment with her 8-year-old daughter just after the shooting occurred. Police said the boy’s mother lived there with her two children, her now-deceased mother and her great-grandmother. A motorist who rolled down his window to slip a dollar bill to a panhandler got more than he bargained for Tuesday morning when the man he was trying to help pulled a knife on him, and robbed him of his money and cellphone as he drove out of a mall parking lot in southwest Topeka. Police said the incident occurred about 8:30 a.m. just west of S.W. 21st and Wanamaker, on the south side of West Ridge Mall . Police watch commander Lt . Chris Heaven told The Topeka Capital -Journal the victim said he was driving out of the south mall exit and preparing to enter S.W. 21st when he stopped his vehicle to give a dollar to a man standing at that location asking for money. “The victim rolled down his window and offered him a dollar,” Heaven said. “However, the man pulled out a knife and demanded more money.” The victim complied with the man’s demands, giving him his money and cellphone. SIERRA VISTA — A man has been arrested for murder after admitting to police he strangled his roommate and hid his body in a suitcase in the bedroom closet. Keith Allen White , 50, was charged with second-degree murder and tampering with physical evidence after police responded to Garden Plaza Apartments at 100 E. Golf Links Rd. on Monday night. Sierra Vista Police received a call at 9:13 p.m. Monday from a resident of the apartment, who reported that White had admitted to killing his roommate, Brian Cook, who is also a relative of the caller. About 100 people were ordered out of two squalid Temple Hills condominium buildings Tuesday , but a group of defiant residents said they are not leaving because they have nowhere to go. Fire officials warned the manager, owners and tenants of Lynnhill Condominiums last week about multiple fire-code violations, including towering piles of garbage in trash chutes and trash storage rooms , inoperable fire doors and a broken alarm system . The seven-story twin-tower complex on Good Hope Avenue has struggled with finances and repairs for more than a decade. WALLKILL, New York (WABC) -- Officials said careless smoking likely sparked a fire that injured several people and destroyed a dozen homes in Orange County, New York, early Tuesday morning . The fire broke out juat after 1 a.m. in the Crestwood Apartments in Wallkill. Strong winds fanned the flames and caused the fire to spread quickly. Deputies seek suspects who crashed stolen car

KALAMAZOO, Mich. (WOOD) — Police say a stabbing and hostage situation in Kalamazoo Tuesday morning was a case of domestic violence. Kalamazoo County Undersheriff Paul Matyas told 24 Hour News 8 the male suspect broke into a unit at Canterbury House Apartments where a woman he was separated from was living with her two kids. The apartment complex is located in the 600 block of Dragonfly Road south of Main Street and US-131 in Kalamazoo. Police said the suspect stabbed a man inside the apartment. The woman and her two small children were able to escape to a neighbor’s apartment, but the suspect broke in through a window. The two kids were able to safely escape again, but the suspect held the woman hostage for some time. The standoff between police and the suspect eventually ended around 6:45 a.m. and the suspect was taken into custody. Authorities say the male victim is currently in surgery. Plano Shooting Leads To Police Standoff « CBS Dallas / Fort Worth

PLANO (CBSDFW) – An early morning shooting led to a standoff with police at an apartment complex in Plano. According to Plano police,  it all started when an unidentified man shot another man in the 1300 block of Sherrye Drive near 14th Street around 1:00 a.m. Tuesday. The victim was taken to the hospital with a gunshot wound to the leg, his current condition is not known. Police were able to track the suspect back to the Woodlands apartment complex near 14th street and Jupiter in east Plano where he refused to come out. The Plano SWAT team responded to negotiate with the suspect. Around 6:30 a.m., police sent in a bomb robot to let the suspect know they were not leaving. He surrendered soon after. Scores Displaced After Apartment Fire In South Cobb

SOUTH COBB, GA -- Scores of people have been displaced after a fire tore through an apartment complex in Austell, authorities said. The Red Cross was on the scene Tuesday morning assisting tenants , the agency said. The blaze occurred at the Villas of Riverside Apartments in the 600 block of Whisper Trail, where the Cobb County Fire Department reported that nearly 30 units were damaged. Escaped inmate recaptured in Westbrook — Portland — Bangor Daily News — BDN Maine

PORTLAND, Maine — Police have recaptured an inmate who escaped while on work release in downtown Portland Tuesday . Law enforcement officers apprehended Larry Goodwin around 6:30 p.m. Tuesday after he had walked off from a job near the Portland waterfront that morning, according to statements from the Cumberland County Sheriff ’s Office. Goodwin, 41, will likely be charged with escape, said Major John Costello of the sheriff’s office. Earlier Tuesday the Sheriff’s Office had asked for public assistance in locating Goodwin , who they say was eventually found and detained at an apartment complex in Westbrook with assistance from that city’s police. Goodwin, a native of Seattle, Washington, was returned to the Cumberland County Jail where he is serving a nine-month sentence for cocaine possession, drunk driving and operating a vehicle after having his license suspended, the sheriff’s office said.

WASHINGTON - A Southeast D.C. family said multiple gunshots rang out overnight at their apartment complex and one of the bullets flew through their toddler's bedroom window while she was sleeping. Tyrasha Johnson said it happened early Sunday morning at the Potomac Gardens Apartments in the 700 block of 13th Street. She said she was inside her apartment with her two daughters when a bullet came flying through the girls' bedroom window while her 3-year-old was asleep. The bullet hole shattered the bedroom's glass window and hit the wall right above the bed where Johnson’s oldest daughter normally sleeps. Luckily, no one was sleeping in that bed at the time and the 3-year-old in the room was sleeping directly across from where bullet struck the wall. Residents of a Temecula apartment complex were reeling after an aspiring rapper was gunned down inside his home late Monday morning . The killing was reported just after 10 a.m. at the Portofino Apartments at 30000 Rancho California Road , where residents said they heard about six rounds fired, yelling and a car peel out before learning that their 23-year-old neighbor had been slain.
