Police arrested a woman Thursday after they found five children living  in deplorable conditions in a third floor Connecticut apartment , according to WTIC. Police and fire crews were called to the apartment in downtown Middletown around 2 p.m. after a report of an air conditioner fire caused by a cigarette thrown from the third floor window. The rear exit of the apartment was blocked by trash, fire officials learned . The health department was also on scene because of complaints that there was a leak from the apartment into the second floor ceiling. Chloe Edwards, 27, opened the door when officers arrived and they were “taken back by the smell coming from the apartment.”  Police said the carpet was covered with food, urine, feces, and cockroach carcasses. Market St., to get on the ground Tuesday as they forced a third worker into the back room of the store in a 9:20 p.m. robbery. The robbers were both wearing pantyhouse-type masks, black pants and black T-shirts. One told the two employees on the floor that they knew where they lived and would kill them if they called police. Police later used a canine to track the suspects and found a mask believed to have been used by the robbers behind a house on Haymaker Avenue Northwest . The employee forced into the back room said one of the robbers ordered her to open the safe, and they took an undisclosed amount of money from the safe and from a register and fled. (AP) — The Latest on a missing Fargo woman whose newborn baby was believed to be found in a north side apartment building (all times local): 4:30 p.m. Volunteers furnished with maps, bug spray and bottled water were searching areas near the Red River in north Fargo after family and friends of Savanna Greywind organized a search for the 22-year-old, who was eight months pregnant when she went missing. The quest to find Greywind has intensified since police found a newborn baby Thursday and arrested two suspects for kidnapping. Greywind was eight months pregnant when she disappeared. The suspects indicated to police that the infant was Greywind's, but would not answer questions about Greywind's whereabouts. Officers with the Grand Forks Narcotics Task Force took part in a probation search Wednesday at an apartment at 111 Cottonwood St., the home of Jacob Zefferino Gomez , according to court documents . Officers said the apartment appeared to be a "flop house" where people come to buy and use drugs. Inside Gomez's bedroom, law enforcement said they found a black case containing a bag with 0.6 grams of heroin and a small amount of marijuana. Officers also said they located a digital scale, commonly used to weigh drugs, in Gomez's closet. Task Force officers said 0.6 grams of heroin is an amount not commonly possessed for personal use. That and the digital scale led to a Class B felony charge for possession with heroin with intent to sell. Gomez, 34, also was charged with child endangerment, a Class C felony, because his two-year-old child was in the residence. SANTA MARIA, CA — A man who abducted his 9-year-old son after allegedly shooting and killing the child's mother, prompting an Amber Alert, was killed Tuesday in an officer-involved shooting in Tarzana and the child was found safe. The California Highway Patrol reported just after 8 p.m. that the Amber Alert was cancelled. It had been in effect in Los Angeles, Ventura and Santa Barbara counties The announcement that Daniel Morozov was found safe came within 90 minutes of an officer-involved shooting about 6:45 p.m. in the 5500 block of Lindley Avenue near Killion Street that left the boy's father, 48-year-old Konstantin Morozov, dead, according to the Los Angeles Police Department . BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (AP) -- Police in Alabama are investigating after two men were found shot to death inside a home. Local news outlets report the Jefferson County Coroner 's Office identified the men, found early Wednesday , as 20-year-old DeJohn Lewis Williams and 22-year-old Dante Lanier Hall . Williams lived in the home where the killings took place. Birmingham police Lt . Sean Edwards says police responded around 1 a.m. Wednesday to a home in Birmingham's Powderly community after neighbors reported hearing gunshots . Officers found Williams and Hall each dead from a single gunshot wound . Edwards says there was a small amount of drugs and drug paraphernalia inside the home. He called the incident a "cold and calculated shooting." The investigation is ongoing.

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) A woman was taken to the hospital with non- life threatening injuries after being shot in the leg early Sunday morning . Officers were called to the 2400 block of Point West Drive , in West Wind Apartments , just before 5:00 a.m. Sunday after a woman ran out of an apartment yelling that she had been shot. Police at the scene told NewsChannel 15 the first responding officers found several people around the apartment building where the incident took place. Initial reports to officers suggested someone knocked on the door and began firing at people inside when it was opened. LAKE CITY, Fla. - A man died after being punched several times, according to the Lake City Police Department . Officers responded to Windsong Apartments shortly after 9 p.m. Saturday night after receiving a report of an unresponsive person. When officers arrived, they found Christopher Roy , 39, unconscious. Police identified the suspect as Mario Brinson, 27, who was still in the apartment when officers arrived. Lake City police said Brinson tried several times to get to Roy by forcefully pushing officers aside until he was told to leave the apartment. Witnesses in the apartment told officers that Brinson and Roy had gotten into an argument, then “bowed up” at each other. Brinson then punched Roy once in the face with his fist and Roy spun around and fell face first to the kitchen floor, losing consciousness, according to police. When members of the Town of Montgomery police department responded to a domestic call in the early morning hours of May 16, the situation turned into a standoff, with the suspect, Anthony Bostick, refusing to come out of his apartment on Abbey Avenue. After hours of negotiations and suicidal comments by Bostick, officers went inside the home. That's when police say Bostick fired at the officers, hitting police chief Arnold Amthor in the shoulder. Officers returned fire , but Bostick wasn't injured; instead, authorities say he shot himself in the bathroom. After the incident, Orange County District Attorney David Hoovler held a news conference, revealing the body camera footage from when officers went inside the apartment.
