Nearly 200 residents at Mirabella apartment complex without water

PHOENIX - Nearly 200 residents at the Mirabella Apartment complex in Phoenix have been without water for days. That is until late Thursday night when Phoenix Fire Department spokesperson Benjamin Santillan told ABC15 the city agreed to turn the water back on for a week. The water company says the complex near the I-17 and Camelback owes them about $50,000 dollars, and until the bill is paid, the residents are stuck in the middle. "I think this is crazy. Everyone is very emotional, we don't know when this will end or if we'll have to go without water every day," said Crystal Medina who called ABC15 for help. When our crews arrived they found some fed up residents standing outside. They've been dealing with no water for two days. "It's terrible. I have to go to work, but we can't shower, we can't use the toilets, we can't even clean," said new resident Ira Savely . Savely and his roommate just moved into the apartment days ago , unaware ...

Police were called to the complex about 9:30 a.m. A maintenance staffer told officers Slayback and two other men had been “acting erratic” and hidden a bag behind a fence enclosing a building’s utilities, police said in a news statement. Officers found the bag, which contained holiday decorations . In a “rambling statement” to officers, Slayback said the decorations had been stolen from a friend and he hoped to return them to her, according to police. Slayback had another bag with him holding a Nintendo game cube . Police officials said they suspect the items had been stolen. Police as...

Seniors Living in Lowry Park Will Have to Move

Image
After one resident heard rumors that the complex was destined to be scraped and developed into hundreds of new units in the hot Lowry neighborhood , he contacted an official with  Vivage Senior Living Solutions , the company that manages the facility — but that official reported back that the executive director didn 't know about the sale, either. Still, residents worried that they would suddenly get a thirty-day notice to vacate, and that would not be enough time to find a new home. Space is in short supply in metro Denver, and a move can be debilitating even when there are available spaces. Many of the seniors rely on Medicaid and Social Security, and switching those accounts to new addresses can be complicated, too. Nancy Schwalm, chief business development officer for Vivage, says that management knew there were offers on the table for the property, a circa 1938 building that was used as officers' quarters back when Lowry was an Air Force base ,  but were kept in the dar...
