Megan Mishler has lost her sense of security. Mishler, who has a rare genetic condition called Ehlers -Danlos Syndrome that prevents her from working, was recently forced to move from her apartment just west of Ann Arbor because her landlord is transitioning from affordable housing to market rate. Mishler is not alone; the transition will impact 144 units at the 368- unit Woodchase apartment complex at 1100 Rabbit Run Circle in Scio Township. “This has been extremely, extremely difficult. I was almost paralyzed at first,” Mishler said, referring to when she learned she would have to move. “This just added a whole other layer on top of all the other stuff that I’m already dealing with.” Mishler was told the rent for her one-bedroom apartment would jump from $770 per month to about $1,200 per month at the end of her lease term. WEST DEPTFORD TWP. – Chronic roof leaks and at least one ceiling collapse have led township officials to revoke three certificates of occupancy at the Forest Creek apartment complex . Residents of the second floor of the apartment complex near Jessup Road have, since last November in some cases, been complaining of regular leaks in their ceiling. Tisa Davenport was in her sixth year living at Forest Creek when a new leak spouted last January. “It was a regular thing, and it’s like you just know the routine at that point,” said Davenport, 33. “The response from management has always been you poke a hole in the ceiling, you get a bucket and you wait for roof repair. But I had three leaks this year and on Feb. 10 or 11, my ceiling collapsed.” Looking into the crater in her ceiling, Davenport reported seeing mold. SALT LAKE CITY, Utah (ABC4 News) - An early morning fire at an apartment complex forced the evacuation of the building and displaced one family in Salt Lake City Thursday .  Dispatchers received the call at 1:35 a.m. of smoke coming from the basement of an apartment located at 79 North A street (200 East).  When crews arrived there were visible flames coming from the basement of the complex, where a couple in their 20s, along with an infant lived. That family, along with 30 others were evacuated from the building without injury. It took firefighters about 25-30 minutes to put the fire completely out due to heavy flames and smoke traveling up the unit however investigators said the complex is not a total loss.  Foul play is not suspected, a cause of the fire and an estimate of damages was not immediately known. 

BALTIMORE (WJZ) — A massive fire in Hagerstown has forced more than 70 people from their apartments Tuesday night . It started right after a thunderstorm rolled through. Residents say the fire started right after the building was hit by lightning, and they watched for 30 minutes while the fire department was unable to get enough water on the flames. “It was just horrific. I’ve never seen anything like it before,” said Shawn Lohr, who lives across from the complex. “We heard the lightning hit, but I thought it hit outside on the pavement, and then the next thing I know, the alarm went off,” said Roxie Vickers, who lives in the apartments. The State Fire Marshal ’s Office confirms the fire was caused by a lightning strike, and all residents of the apartment have been accounted for. It was just after 8 p.m., when the storms rolled through Hagerstown, and the Woodbridge North Apartments went up in flames. “In a matter of 15-20 minutes, it was the whole roof, gone,” one resident said. “...

SOUTHFIELD, Mich. - An apartment fire has killed one woman and forced several people from their homes in Southfield. Southfield firefighters pulled a woman from the flames at the Chateau Riviera Apartments near 9 Mile and Southfield roads Tuesday night .  She was taken to a local hospital, but did not survive. Fire crews worked to contain the flames to one unit at the apartment complex. However, neighboring tenants were forced out because of the fire in the downstairs unit. A Southfield fire house is just around the corner about 1 minute away. Firefighters were able to respond to the fire quickly and control it. The cause of the fire is under investigation. Moore was a suspect in an assault with a gun that happened early Sunday morning in the city. Columbia Police Department spokeswoman Bryana Larimer confirmed Moore 's name late Sunday night in a news release. The release also said Moore was arrested on the following felony charges: Two counts of rape in the first degree; two counts of sodomy in the first degree; armed criminal action ; burglary; failure to register with a bond of $5,000; tampering with physical evidence; unlawful possession of a concealable firearm and misdemeanor domestic assault . Larimer said Moore allegedly broke into a home while armed with a gun at 3:52 a.m. Sunday on the 200 block of Old 63 North in Columbia. A female was injured during that incident. Market St., to get on the ground Tuesday as they forced a third worker into the back room of the store in a 9:20 p.m. robbery. The robbers were both wearing pantyhouse-type masks, black pants and black T-shirts. One told the two employees on the floor that they knew where they lived and would kill them if they called police. Police later used a canine to track the suspects and found a mask believed to have been used by the robbers behind a house on Haymaker Avenue Northwest . The employee forced into the back room said one of the robbers ordered her to open the safe, and they took an undisclosed amount of money from the safe and from a register and fled. SYRACUSE, N.Y. -- A fire at the Clarendon Heights Apartments gutted several apartments and forced city firefighters to signal a second alarm and call for support. Firefighters were called just before 8 p.m. Wednesday to building 1300 at the apartment complex on Ivy Ridge Road , between Thurber Street and East Brighton Avenue . Crews arrived on the scene and found flames bursting through the roof of the building. More units were called for almost immediately. Emergency vehicles clogged the street leading up to the complex. Firefighters hit the blaze with an aerial ladder truck and several hose lines. The fire was knocked down before 9 p.m., though small flames and sparks could still be seen in the third-floor units that suffered the most damage. COLLEGE STATION , Tex. (KBTX) A number of residents who hoped to move into a new high- rise apartment in College Station were turned away Saturday. Management with Sterling at Northgate sent some of their new tenants an email Friday night that said the property would have a delay in occupancy. The delay meant those tenants would not be able to move-in Saturday. According to the letter, the city will not allow residency in Building Two on August 19th, due to water shut-off to the building. Residents who spoke with KBTX say they were offered a chance to put their belongings inside, but they wouldn’t be able to stay the night.
