Mother, Child Displaced After Nashville Apartment Fire

NASHVILLE, Tenn. - A single mother and her child have been displaced after fire broke out at their south Nashville apartment complex . Crews were called to the Highland Apartments on Nolensville Pike just before 1 a.m. Friday. The Fire Chief said a board in the phone box at the apartment complex sparked the electrical fire . The blaze may have started after a utility truck hit phone lines in the area Thursday.  One unit was badly damaged, displacing a mother and child. Officials said they believe the apartment complex will be helping them with a place to stay.  No one was hurt in the fire.

null A major Evansville apartment complex is the focus of an on-line petition to shut it down after the recent case of a teenager found dead . The petition on Change.org calls for Mayor Lloyd Winnecke to shut down the Woodland Park Apartments and find better housing for current residents . Jeremy Wakefield, a former resident at the complex says he started it to start a conversation, and to start action at improving living conditions . It comes more than a day after Caleb Luckett was found dead in one of the apartments. "I just remember it was a much nicer neighborhood at the time," says Wakefield, recalling his time living at the apartment complex . "I do remember it wasn't anything like it is now." For wakefield, the memory of recent incidents cloud those he had growing up at Woodland Park. Jeff Malachowski Daily News Staff @JMalachowskiMW MARLBOROUGH – Firefighters quickly put out a blaze inside an unoccupied residence at the Royal Crest apartments Tuesday afternoon , mostly limiting the damage to that one apartment, said Fire Chief Kevin Breen . A resident of the apartment complex called 911 after seeing smoke emanating from a third-floor balcony of one of the residential buildings at the facility around 12:45 p.m., said Breen. Fire crews arrived moments later and encountered heavy smoke and fire. Firefighters immediately began an aggressive outside attack on the blaze and were able to quickly put it out, said Breen. The apartment was empty, which aided crews in containing the fire to the apartment. Breen said if there had been furniture and other materials in the apartment, the fire could have spread and the damage could have been much worse. “The fire was just ready to break from the area of origin,” said Breen. “We were very fortunate.” The apartment ...

2 critically injured in massive apartment complex fire in Wallkill

WALLKILL, New York (WABC) -- Officials said careless smoking likely sparked a fire that injured several people and destroyed a dozen homes in Orange County, New York, early Tuesday morning . The fire broke out juat after 1 a.m. in the Crestwood Apartments in Wallkill. Strong winds fanned the flames and caused the fire to spread quickly. By the time firefighters arrived at the scene, the entire building was engulfed. RANCHO CUCAMONGA: Apartment fire displaces 3 students

Grease left unattended on a stove sparked a fire in a Rancho Cucamonga apartment Sunday night , March 1, officials said. The fire was reported at 8:44 p.m. on the second floor of a three- story apartment complex in the 10400 block of Arrow Highway, said Kelley Donaldson, spokeswoman for the Rancho Cucamonga Fire District . A neighbor from the unit above used an extinguisher to help control the fire before firefighters arrived, Donaldson said. About 20 firefighters contained the fire in less than 10 minutes. Damage was confined to the kitchen, she said. Three displaced residents, all male students at a nearby vocational school , Universal Technical Institute , won’t be allowed to return until repairs are made, Donaldson said. The school will find lodging for them in the meantime, she said. No one was injured. Firefighters briefly evacuated the 12- unit apartment building , she said.
