Leaders mull ways to improve parking in downtown Auburn | Auburn

Downtown Merchants Association coordinator Jessica Kohn said one resounding issue is brought up at each monthly meeting of downtown Auburn business owners . “A huge hurdle is employees not having designated parking spaces for them,” Kohn said. “Unless business owners lease parking spaces , that’s really the only way they’re guaranteed a space. Certain business owners tell their employees to catch a ride or walk.” On average, 125 employees work at businesses downtown each day, she added. Not having them park their personal vehicles downtown frees parking spaces for customers. Developer promises completion of Royal Oak's first hotel by next year

After five years and the demolition of a former car dealership site on Main Street, Royal Oak will see a Hyatt hotel, a mixed-use building and a parking deck by next year, a developer promised. “I think you’re going to see a lot of action at that site from here on out,” Greg Cooksey of Trailhead RO LLC told City Commissioners . He added the timeline for project completion is September 2018. Cooksey has worked in a development partnership on the project with Versa Development in Southfield. It was recently remodeled when we moved in early '08. Granite counters, SS appliances (although cheap ones), nice cabinetry, w/d in unit. We liked it very much. Although the rent is a little high for the area, ours was $1400. The location is very good if you're working downtown, but don't take the bus (riding through SODO sucks and takes an hour). The landscaping is well taken care of, the maintenance is good and the front office worked well with us. We paid rent late one time and they let it go after a little convincing (else would have received a higher rating). Parking can also be a pain. With this month's impending closure of Little Hollywood Launderette, a German eatery setting up shop in the long-vacant Rub-A-Dub-Dub on Church, and Duboce Triangle's Rising Star Laundromat being turned into a three-bedroom residence, many Castro neighbors are wondering where they're going to be able to wash their clothes. In a neighborhood with many older buildings that lack even in-building laundry, this prompted an question extra in rent do you have to pay to have laundry (whether in-unit or in-building) at your Castro apartment ? To find out, we analyzed data from rental listings website Zumper , examining all studio and one-bedroom apartments for rent in the neighborhood. Our data found that the median rental price for a studio or one-bedroom in the Castro is $3,300, but the median for those with laundry is $3,450—a difference of $150 per month, or 4.55 percent.
