12-year-old in custody for attacking teen with baseball bat

OAKLAND COUNTY, MI - A 12-year-old boy is being held at the Oakland County Children's Village after allegedly striking a 14-year-old boy with a baseball bat following a fist fight.

Deputies with the Oakland County Sheriff's Office responded shortly before 10 p.m. Monday, Aug. 14, to Oak Forest Apartments, 151 Casemer Road, in Orion Township to a call of two people fighting in the complex.

Witnesses told police the younger boy approached the teen and provoked him into a fist fight. He then entered an apartment after the pair separated, grabbed a baseball bat and began chasing after the older boy.

The teen was struck in the left knee with the bat as he attempted to run away, police said. A witness to the fight was able to pull the bat away from the 12-year-old boy and throw it over a fence in the area.

A juvenile petition was completed and the boy was lodged, pending an intake hearing scheduled for Tuesday afternoon.
