2 dead at Jacksonville's Silver Creek Apartments; murder-suicide likely

Early indications are that a man and woman’s deaths Thursday at a Jacksonville apartment complex resulted from a murder-suicide, police said.

Neighbors reported hearing a loud argument then gunshots shortly before 10 a.m. at the Silver Creek Apartments at 300 Silver Creek Trace off Atlantic Boulevard near Southside Boulevard.

"We do have two individuals and a weapon indside an apartment," Sgt. Jay Farhat said at the scene.

The Sheriff's Office said 42-year-old Madelin Maria Cartaya Hernandez was the victim. She lived there, but the sergeant couldn't say whether the man and woman were in a relationship. Family said he was an ex-boyfriend.

The Sheriff's Office said it is not looking for any suspects.
