Blas Lopez, 29, and his fiancée, Lluvia Padilla, 28, quickly answered: Check her temperature and call the doctor if she has a fever they can’t control. “I’m very proud of both of you knowing what to do,” Gil said, as 3-year-old Leilanie Lopez played with a pretend kitchen nearby . OXFORD, Miss. — A 28-year-old Oxford man is facing serious charges after his girlfriend was shot in the head overnight. D'Marius Madkins was taken into custody around 12:30 a.m. after officers learned a woman had been shot at the University Trails apartment complex . When first responders arrived, the victim, Alisha Smith, 23, was sitting on the balcony and was able to speak with paramedics before she was flown to the Regional Medical Center in Memphis. Police believe the two may have been drinking. She is listed in critical condition, but police say they've been in contact with Smith's mother to monitor how she's doing. Authorities said they recovered the weapon believed to have been used in the shooting at the apartment. KALAMAZOO, Mich. (WOOD) — Police say a stabbing and hostage situation in Kalamazoo Tuesday morning was a case of domestic violence. Kalamazoo County Undersheriff Paul Matyas told 24 Hour News 8 the male suspect broke into a unit at Canterbury House Apartments where a woman he was separated from was living with her two kids. The apartment complex is located in the 600 block of Dragonfly Road south of Main Street and US-131 in Kalamazoo. Police said the suspect stabbed a man inside the apartment. The woman and her two small children were able to escape to a neighbor’s apartment, but the suspect broke in through a window. The two kids were able to safely escape again, but the suspect held the woman hostage for some time.
